It''s been more than a year using the SAME CARTRIDGE. Our water processing plant is currently having issues with the quality of water and its coming out of the pipes very dirty. Using just the BASIC cartridge, the water comes out crystal clear, drinkable. This baby is amazing. Still no leaks whatsoever. Buying another replacement cartridge now just in case.

Oh, the nut that tightens the unit to the sink broke because its plastic. Just buy a steel nut and problem solved. Should cost you like 3 dollars.

    ORIGINAL REVIEW:
After reading the reviews on this, I was skeptical. Some people said that the filter was not of enough quality or that it would not filter the necessary impurities. I considered that we live in a metropolitan area where the city water is just about decent. So we went with the basic filter option. Also, a reverse osmosis system is very expensive and wastes a ton of water (about 3 gallons of waste per 1 gallon of drinkable water).

I have to say the results are amazing, even with the Basic filter:
    - No solids or visible impurities in the water. This means no "floaties" or "flakes" which is the way people refer to the calcium, manganese or magnesium precipitates that can be seen in cold or room-temp water. Although these precipitates are harmless (they in fact occur naturally in other foods we eat), they taste funky and look rather discouraging to drink. This filter took out all of that.
    - The taste of the water is great. Even at room-temp, the water is easy to drink and delicious.
    - the water pressure is quite nice with the basic filter. (see pictures)

As for the installation, just follow the instructions and a few Pro-tips:

PRO TIP: The mark included in the white silicone tube is 5/8 inch long. When you cut the tube to your liking, go ahead and mark the other side so you''ll have no trouble fitting it to the right depth.

PRO TIP: If you need to drill the extra hole in your sink. It will require the 9/16 bit. I tried the 5/8 hole as mentioned in the instruction, but the white tube does not fit. Use these to drill the hole:
    - TEMO M35 cobalt 9 size double flute step drill 3/8" shank 1/4" to 3/4"
    - CRC 03400 16oz Truetap Cutting Fluid Heavy Duty
    - Starrett 117C Center Punch With Round Shank, 4" Length, 1/8" Tapered Point Diameter

You can check out my reviews on these 3 tools as well, for more details on how to use each for this application.

PRO TIP: DO USE plumber''s tape (the white one) on all male fittings. This will ensure no leakage.

PRO TIP: when i first turned on the water, nothing came out. This was because the filter needed to click TWICE when tightening it in. Just make sure its nice and tight.

    Installation observations:
    - No leaks whatsoever were observed. A few people have complained about leaks, for us, this was not the case. We did use plumber''s tape.
    - The process was very straightforward. Took us more time to clear out the area under the sink, than it took to install.
    - We left the filter loose (did not mount with screws) to be able to take it out and replace it easier.

I have installed and used expensive reverse osmosis systems, but the water at my current residence is pretty good, so it only need a little conditioning and this fit the bill. I like the simple single cartridge and the price on the system and replacements cartridges is great.

Now the rub; The kit comes with parts to connect to 1/2" water hoses, but many houses have 3/8" supply lines, so you left trying to figure out a way to adapt the system to what you have. If you call Culligan they will tell you to get a compression saddle valve with a 1/4" hose hookup (commonly used for ice makers), but I don''t like using those, especially since they install before your water valve, so if you have a leak, you have to turn off the water to your house to repair. You can also buy adapters, different hoses and spend more on getting it to fit that the system cost. Here is the right way to do it:

Buy a Proline 993-015NL brass supply line. These are a "T" that are designed to add another line and they include a male and female 3/8" connector (faucet goes on one side, water valve on the other) and 1/4" outlook to hook your Culligan system to.

Buy a Watts A-4 961-P brass compression nut with insert. This will allow you to hook the 1/4 Culligan water supply line into the Proline "T" from above.

Installation is not too bad if you are handy. Of course you must handle plastic parts carefully.
I have ONE major note for all - please read -

if your tap water contains high Chlorine, this unit will filter that for you, then noticeable there are some white stuff appears in the filter water after you boil the water. I''ve contacted Culligan guys here is the answer -

"What you’re seeing appears to be calcium hardness which presents itself as white flakes or crystals. When water evaporates, the calcium hardness can also have a powdery appearance. Chlorine can mask the presence of calcium hardness in the water, which is why you almost never see it in unfiltered water. The US-EZ-4 removes 97% of chlorine from the water. Not all filter manufacturers make filters that will reduce that much chlorine, which is why other filters might not expose the calcium hardness in the water. A simple test is to boil 4 oz of filtered water from the US-EZ-4 and you see the calcium flakes appear. Then add 4oz of pure vinegar to the 4 oz of water and stir. If the vinegar dissolves the flakes then we will know for sure that there is calcium hardness in the water."

So, if you saw white flakes in your boil water, you should now have known the cause.

I looked at a ton of water filters on Amazon and found it difficult to find a clear winner. There’s a huge swing in price and complexity on these things and the reviews are all over the place on all but the most expensive. I decided on this one because of price and simplicity.

My short review is that it works great, my water tastes good, and it meets my needs.

    The longer answer...

As usual when you have a product that requires you to install it yourself, you have a bunch of people giving it 1 star and claiming defects.
The majority of the complaints about this product are about leaking and most people seem to blame that on low quality hardware that comes with it. All the hardware is made of plastic and while I wouldn’t call it “heavy duty”, it is plenty adequate for handling a thin line of low pressure water. Also, lets not forget the low price. If you feel you need all metal parts and a high end faucet, there are plenty of more expensive options out there. The unit also only comes with a connector for 1/2" lines, which they should have stated in the description. If you happen to have another size you will have to make a trip to the hardware store.

I’d say the majority of the problems people have come from:

    - Over tightening.
    - Not properly cutting the hose that comes with the unit.
    - Bad Gaskets in your existing hose.

Over tightening the connectors can put too much pressure on the seals and cause them to leak. You only need to get them good and finger tight then turn a little more with a wrench.

The unit comes with a hose which you have to cut. You need to cut this with a utility knife or other sharp blade. Scissors or similar cutters that involve squeezing can mash the hose while cutting it. This hose has to stay round and the end needs to be cut flat to make a good seal.

Odds are your existing cold water hose has been on there for several years.. The rubber gasket in the connector could be falling apart, hardened, or just become moulded to the shape of the pipe its been connected to for so long and won’t make a good connection to anything else. That’s what happened with mine. I had a major leak after first putting this thing together. Do yourself a favor and just go ahead and replace the hose when you install this. They''re 5-10 bucks and you could probably use a new one anyway. After doing this, mine sealed great.

Bottom line: Take your time, read the instructions, do it right and you''ll have a good leak free filter.

***Update: It''s been a year since I installed this and not a single problem. Looks and works just like the day I bought it.

It should be noted that to attach to the supply line the tee included has half inch connections. It is normal to have 3/8" connections at the shutoffs under the sink so it appears the 1/2" tee is intended to attach to the fixture end and not the shutoff end which may be why so many reviews mention the 3/8" connection being a problem. Disconnect the supply hose from the faucet cold 1/2" connection and thread the tee on to the faucet and then connect the supply hose to the bottom of the tee. If your faucet has the hoses built into it that cannot be removed you will need to find another way to connect the supply. Check your faucet to see if you can thread 1/2" hoses onto the bottom to be sure.

I read a few reviews that mentioned leaks occurring when the filter split. That seems like a pretty huge flaw if that is possible. To be safe I didn''t mount it under the sink.

It is an inexpensive setup and I can see how the fittings could cause a problem especially if the hoses aren''t cut properly and squarely. Also the hose is marked to indicate that you have fully pressed it in and engaged the fittings on the filter. Once you push the hose in it seems like its tight but you want to push it in a little more, about to the lines on the hoses. If using another hose or a cut portion of the hose you need to make sure it is fully engaged. The connection to the bottom of the spigot was a little odd, it seemed you could put a lot or a little of the hose in and the water fills the full length of the threaded portion under the sink. You want to make sure that the insert that goes into the hose is inside the nut when securing, you can easily feed more hose into the fitting than is necessary and you won''t have the hose insert under the nut to assist with the compression seal. I did not have any leaks from the press on fittings or hoses.

I did not use the tee for the supply and instead opted to use longer 1/4" hose I had purchased for an Ice maker install and ran the tubing into the basement directly below the sink and conveniently above the sump pump hole should any major blowouts occur. This is not possible in all situations but this would also allow me to tee off the filter again for use as the ice maker filter with a bypass plug for the fridge filter. Without the sink supply to attach to you would have to find another cold water supply. I had an unused washer hose connection in the same location so it seemed a waste of time to solder in a tee and shutoff or using a saddle valve (I wouldn''t use a saddle valve). I purchased a screw on hose connection to 1/4" compression fitting and inserted the supply into that, a quarter turn of the hose bib was all I needed to have adequate water pressure to the filter.

The filter fills a gallon jug two to three times as fast as our old faucet mounted Culligan Filter that served us well for the past three years. The water seems to taste the same but we have only had it three days. The quality of the spigot is good enough for me, it seems solid enough but I don''t have anything to compare it to. If we have a problem with it then I will replace it someday, no big deal. I am happy we have filtered water and could finally replace the sink faucet we neglected to change because we were dependent on the old Culligan filter. We filter for taste and Chlorine as we have city water, it should last us the full 12 months between filter changes I hope.

I bought the EZ-4 with the premium filter. Install was fairly easy and sumple. The only problem we ran into was the cold water shutoff valve threads weren''t long enough for the nut on the supply valve that came with it. This caused it to leak because the rubber washer wouldn''t seat correctly because of the gap. A couple more rubber washers inserted into it from Home Depot fixed the problem nicely, no leaks. The water tastes great and I am extremely happy with this system. Only took a couple of hours to install, trip to Home Depot included. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a great low cost water filtration system. By the way in case anyone else sees a coin size battery in the kit that goes into the side of the faucet, its for a filter change reminder. I couldn''t find any where in the instructions or in box that said what it eas for. I found a product review video that briefly said it was for a filter change reminder. I assume in 6 months the little light on the front of the faucet will light up or blink. So I guess we wait and see.

This unit is a replacement for our old Whirlpool double filtration system which was damaged in the course of installing a new sink. The old unit worked OK but had a very low flow rate. The cartridges cost $45 and he automatic sensor in the tap would have me changing them way more often than really necessary. I assume the sediment filter, which I really don''t need, restricted the flow excessively (I didn''t have a choice about getting this feature). This Culligan unit is a pleasant surprise. Not only does the water flow many times greater, it aerates the water as well. All the northern Florida chlorine and sulfur tast and smell is effectively removed. Installation was easy, except that there were no specific instructions for installing it with a predrilled 1 1/2 mounting hole. Also, the supplied T- fitting didn''t work with the 3/8 supply line ; flexible connectors on my cold water line. I had to go to Lowes for a $10 fitting to replace it. Anyway there weren''t any leaks or fuss otherwise. Oh yea- the replacement cartridge is on Amazon for about $12!!!

Overall, I am disappointed in the manufacturing of this product. Every bit of it is low-quality. The faucet is plastic, and they couldn''t even be bothered to put their logo on it permanently. It''s just a clear sticker that easily peels off. The screws that mount the filter to the cabinet are very soft and stripped easily, forcing me to scare up some of my own.

But the real kicker is the T-fitting that goes between your cold water supply and your faucet. It was made of nylon. Most fittings are brass for a reason. So when this one immediately started leaking after I hooked it up, I was not surprised.

If you look at the photo of the plastic fitting and see that dark smudge-looking line, that''s the crack, and that''s where water was leaking from. So again, I will have to go to the hardware store and find a replacement. I suppose I could ask Culligan for a replacement T-fitting, but they''d probably just send me another crap plastic one.

I can understand cutting a few corners here and there to be able to keep it at a competitive price level, but this was just too much. I will avoid Culligan in the future.

Not sure how it filters water yet. I may update when I get the replacement fitting, and then again I may not. I''m pretty disgusted with it right now.

The filter works very well, the tap is plastic, and it did not matched the color and stile of the tap we had, I am not saying that it will break, I have experience installing plastic pipes and the worst enemy is overtighten because you create stress that after some time will cause the plastic to break. I replaced the tap from the kit for this one https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00LZ0H9VC/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0 that matched our existing tap better. The installation is not difficult, but consider that if the fittings for your kitchen tap are not 1/2" you will need to buy some extra parts. In my case I need to buy a tee 3/8 with a 1/4 branch to get the connection for the 1/8 tube. We live in Toronto and the problem with the water is the strong taste to chlorine, and this filter eliminated the taste and odor completely. I would recommend this filter to any one, if you use the tap provided, remember not to overtighten it.

The Water supplied at the Campground we have our trailer in has a horribly pungent sulfur smell to it, they get it tested regularly and while it is technically safe to drink I wouldn''t drink or cook with it it because of the distinct smell/taste being so off-putting. The Culligan RVF-10 Level 1 Recreational Vehicle External Water Filter got rid of a lot of the smell it didn''t quite get me to where I wanted to be for drinking or cooking so I bought this setup for Point of use at our kitchen sink and the combination of both filters gets me exactly where I need to be or I''ll be honest "Close enough" I''d say it''s about 95% of the way. I''ll now drink it if I don''t have bottles of water on hand as I no longer gag, it is however now fine to use for cooking, coffee, tea or even ice is okay with it the combination of filters. As for pressure it''s similar to other Point of Use water filters like this, it''ll take a while to fill up a big pot. Installation was a breeze, everything fit the connectors that were in place.

The water lines and hoses are all unstandard 1/4" lines which are normally used for refridgerator water dispensers and not drinking fountain type faucets. The NORMAL industry standard water line for these types are 3/8" lines. So to install this I had to buy 3/8" to 1/4" adapters. I used the original seat valve and my original 2-tank standard filter housing unit as a pre-filter for this one as it is an all-in-one, it would clog faster and not be as efficient at reducing taste before it clogged to an unusable form. Then I added the first adapter after the 2-tank filter into their new housing, then from their new housing into a second 1/4" to 3/8" adapter to go back into my own 3/8" chromed brass which is better than the chromed ABS one they included. So, though easy to install, not entirely great because they used refridgerator water lines on a drinking tap system.

The name is Ez but assembling the filter is not so easy as I am still trying to figure out how do I assemble the 1/2 inch tee that came with the package to my 3/8 water line. Not many options of this kind of fittins are available. Went around the whole city hardware stores and couldn’t find anything. Worst design. I regret buying this one as I am unable to fit in to my kitchen faucet line after having it for about a week now.
